DESCRIPTION:WHAT: San Francisco Commune - Housing & Social Center Occupation\n\nWHEN:
 May 1st 2012, 2PM* \n\nWHERE: Market / Van Ness Sts. SF\n\n*A march will
also leave at 1:30PM from Market/Montgomery Sts. & converge with the SFC
2PM march at Market/Van Ness.\n\n\nThe San Francisco Commune has been
initiated to provide a perpetual, autonomous headquarters for the Occupy SF
movement.\n\nThis Tuesday, May 1st, Occupy SF affiliated groups will march
to the new location of the San Francisco Commune, a formerly vacant
building being transformed into a vibrant healing space, social center, and
housing for the community. The march to the newly occupied building will
begin at 2pm at Market St and Van Ness. At 1:30 a march will start from
the People’s Street Festival at Market St. & Montgomery and end at Market
& Van Ness to meet up with the march to the new building.\n\nIs it not the
symptom of a sick society, when ten thousand people must sleep on the
street in a city where 32,000 homes lay vacant? By liberating a community
resource, a vacant building, and handing it back to the people we bring
immediate care and relief to those that are suffering while challenging the
dominant economic system that prioritizes profit over human life. The
Occupy SF encampments in the Financial District were excellent examples of
what is possible when the commons are liberated and reclaimed by the
people. A community was created where resources were shared in a gift
economy, decisions were made horizontally, and medical care and food was
provided for all. For 82 days hundreds of people without homes found
refuge, healing and empowerment until the brutal police raid and removal of
the camp in December.\n\nThe SF Commune’s most recent incarnation began
on April 1st at 888 Turk Street and was violently evicted by SFPD’s SWAT
team just as community support began pouring in. On Easter Sunday, within 6
days of the eviction another building was occupied to continue to provide
housing to those in need of it. This May 1st in solidarity with the call
for a General Strike and May Day actions around the world, we will March to
the new location of a previously vacant building and will re-open the space
for the public as a social center, housing and organizing space for the
community. Join us Tuesday at 2pm at Market St & Van Ness and/or at 1:30pm
at Market St. and Montgomery.\n\nThe event will also include a large
community BBQ (w/ vegan & veggie dishes) be prepared by the OccupySF
Sustainability Workgroup.\n\nStrike. Blockade. Liberate. Create. \nOccupy
 Everything!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
