DESCRIPTION:The story of the soldier, the Marine, the men and the women and the
journeys within the military service in a time of war is the basis for this
project.\n\nUtilizing uniforms worn in combat, veterans cut, cook, beat and
form sheets of paper out of their uniforms. In this way, veterans are able
to use the transformative process of papermaking to reclaim their uniform
as art and begin to reconcile their experiences as a soldier in war.\n\nThe
Combat Paper Project is a collaboration initiated by Drew Matott and Drew
Cameron, involving war veterans, activists and artists.\n\nJoin the the
Combat Paper vets and artists for an interactive evening where art meets
activism. Paper already made from uniforms at Magnolia Editions studio and
Mills College paper studio in Oakland days prior will be available for
creating art in the forms of poems or letters typed with a type writer,
silk screening, painting, book binding, you name it! Be creative, feel free
to bring supplies you would need to do art with paper. Share political
poems or songs or works you may have.\n\nThe day will begin with a
introduction to the project, with readings from the Warrior Writers book
compiled of poems, essays, and letters from anti war veterans, performances
by vets and YOU, too! We will then break off into groups and create
different types of art with the combat paper and have discussions while
 working.\n\n http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/10/17/18545080.php
