Miami Activist Defense (MAD), the legal support group for those arrested during the Free Trade Area of the Americas protests, reported a total of 282 arrests over the period from November 11-22. There were dozens of reports of injuries sustained from the vast array of weaponry, which included batons, tear gas, pepper spray, plastic and rubber bullets, concussion grenades, tasers and electric shields. Over thirty people were injured from projectile weapons, five of which suffered head wounds, and at least two people were hospitalized with serious head injuries. MAD reported at least ten beatings of arrestees, seven people held at gunpoint, and at least one person physically assaulted while in jail. 11/22 summary: Reports of brutality within the jail have come in to the legal team. A Latino man was brutalized within the prison walls and is now at a hospital. Another man who had sustained injuries to his head during the protests has been neglected and is suffering from a hemorrhage (more from Chicago Indymedia). There are also reports that two transgender people have been sexually abused.

11/20 afternoon summary: The FTAA IMC in Miami reported extensive police brutality: riot police fired rubber bullets, pellet bags, extensive use of pepper spray, tear gas and batons, concussion grenades and stun guns, as well as using tazers and pointing guns at people. Police setup multiple check points to search people and their bags. 185 buses were "detained" and kept from joining the rally. ID-checks, barricades, roving gangs of undercover cops, and agents provocateurs were also documented. Protesters were at the fence, but were brutally attacked by police when trying to move further. So far there have been 100-150 arrests and many injured protesters. Read more for a summary about morning events.
